Jhanvi was born and raised in Mumbai, India. She earned her BA in Producing for the Visual and Media Arts from Emerson College in 2014. In the Summer of 2013, Jhanvi attended a summer intensive course at FAMU in Prague. Jhanvi has interned at a range of companies in the Development and Production departments; MGM Studios, BBC Worldwide, Lotus Entertainment, Alcon Entertainment and Andrew Lauren Productions. Post Graduation, Jhanvi served as an Executive Assistant to a Writer/Producer at Warner Bros. Studios. Coming to AFI was an active decision on Jhanvi's part to re-engage in active filmmaking and practicing the craft of storytelling in a creative environment.
This story is one close to Jhanvi’s own personal tryst with her homeland, India. She firmly believes that coming from a place so rich with culture has never stopped her from questioning its fallacies. She hopes this story will be a stepping stone towards highlighting the archaic practices of Hinduism which persist even today and how they are often more destructive than helpful.
